About BFAC

Busk for a Cure is an annual charity music festival. Last year, we had 50 artists performing across 5 locations in Newtown, raising just over $3000 for the Cancer Council NSW and Crohn’s & Colitis Australia. We organise buskers to provide high quality entertainment and community engagement, with 100% of donations going straight to charity. We don’t take anything — all operating and marketing costs are covered by volunteers and sponsors.

Helmut Uhlmann founded Busk for a Cure in July 2014 as a way of combining his love of music and entrepreneurship with a cause that was embedded deep within his heart. After battling cancer for ten years, Helmut’s mother passed away from metastasised endometrial cancer in August 2015. Far from facing this struggle alone, however, too many other Australians encounter the tragedy of cancer, either directly or indirectly. Busk for a Cure is about everyday Australians contributing to the fight against cancer in a transparent and fun way.

We’re about genuine entertainment that’s cool, edgy, and urban. We want you to have such a great time listening to local artists that you’re just enjoying the experience, rather than dwelling on the gravity of the issues we support; but at the same time, you can rest assured that every cent of your money is going towards our charity partners.

We are excited about Busk For A Cure 2017, and are aiming to raise $6000 for Cancer Council NSW — double the amount from last year. Our main busking area will be just outside the Newtown Markets (other locations TBC) on Saturday May 27th, with a public launch on May 1st — you can expect more updates and information on the event as we get closer to the date!
